By now, everyone has probably heard the rumors about the devices used by the Right on our friends and fellow mutants. If you haven't, here are the straight facts: the Right used electromagnetic collars that suppress the expression of the X-gene, with the intention of preventing their mutant captives from using their natural abilities.
One of those collars came back from the rescue operations at the end of August. I got my hands on it, and I think I can turn it in to something that actually benefits us, instead of harms and oppresses us.
With funding from Nolan, Simon Tam and I will be working on an adaptation of the power-suppression technology to help anyone whose mutation is maladaptive, harmful, or detrimental -- or anyone who would like to live without their mutation for awhile for any reason. We have started researching this and we feel confident that we can achieve this.
I post this today for two reasons. First, because everyone deserves to know that this technology exists and that it's being researched in the same building where you live every day. We are taking every precaution to keep it from harming anyone else.
Second, due to the nature of our abilities, Simon and I can't test this technology on ourselves. I would if I could, but as soon as I do, I become completely useless to the process. Simon's the same. So, we're looking for volunteers to help us out, who would be willing to have their mutations suppressed under controlled, laboratory conditions.
If you volunteer, you deserve to know that while we don't yet know 100% of the side effects, we do know a few things.
1) You will not permanently lose your mutant abilities. They always come back once the suppression field is deactivated.
2) The suppression field does not affect any other part of your physiology or genetics.
3) No physical or mental health after-affects have been observed in any mutant as a direct result of the suppression field.
I know that this is weird and uncomfortable for a lot of us. I don't even like touching the thing myself, but I truly believe that we can turn the Right's fear and hatred around, and create something that actually helps us. I hope you'll help me and Simon out with that.
